Marvel Studios has hired Conan scribes Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to write Dr. Strange, marking forward progress on a long-gestating superhero property which will likely be among the first Marvel films generated under the Disney banner.

I must say I would be really interested in this flick, mostly because Doc Strange has never been one of the flagship characters for Marvel. He's always been in his own section of the Marvel U, away from Avengers, SPidey, X-Men, etc. (unless something HUGE is about to happen! ) Laughing

Same. Him and Silver Surfer were the only sections of Marvel that covered magic and space adventure. Which is still untapped at Marvel. Not excluding Ghost Rider and...yea, I've got nothing else for space adventures that was relatively big.

I doubt this'll be Disney-ish. Even if it is "friendly" it'd still be a blast. Hellboy and ""II are PG-13 and they grabbed hold of the feel of the stories wonderfully. Sigh...where'd you go Guillermo? Sad

Anyways, wonder what they'll be going for. You know it'll be origin, like the animated movie. So Mordo, Wong, and The Ancient One, and the obtaining of the Eye of Agamotto & The Cloak of Levitation.

Villains other than Mordo's intro: Dormammu? Cthon? Shuma-Gorath? You know it would've been Cthulu-esque Shuma-Gorath if it was del Toro.

^ I mean, characters based in that part of the universe. I know there's annihilation and such, but no really sticks out, nor does Marvel really play off those themes too much. Everyone's battled something from space, but in DC, so many characters are aliens or envolve non-Earth titles.

Gotcha. Well in recent years there has been Nova and the Guardians of the Galaxy based exclusively in the Cosmic side. In terms of development of the Marvel space side of things, it's actually been pretty extensive recently. DC Earth does have a ton of aliens though, but other than the GLC it does seem like a ton of them hang out on Earth mostly.

^ I can see your worry. All the hokey magician movies trying to be like Harry Potter. But yea, I can easily see what's-his-face playing that self-centered Stephen Strange at the beginning of the movie and breaking out of that.

my problem with the Sorcerer's Apprentice is that they are ripping off Harry Dresden, at least lookwise. Anyway in my opinion Hugh Laurie would make a better choice for Dr. Strange. but whatever.

I'd actually really like this.

I'm not really a Doctor Strange fan, but I quite like Patrick Dempsey. I just recently started watching Grey's Anatomy, and I LOVE it. Dempsey is great in it. He's one charming son of a bitch and I would love to see him as Strange.

the movie studio's just wanna get him in a comic movie bad....first the ant man rumor now this....truthfully i don't see him, hugh laurie or dempsey in this role...i think viggo mortensen could pull it off.
