Most people here seemed to think in the other thread that people can be evil.
Are some people completly lost and beyond redemption?
Someone who does horrible things like murder dozens of people is that person capable of turning around and becoming a decent human being or are are they too far gone?

People can change. It is possible to have a spiritual awakening of some kind & experience a complete personality overhaul. For example: John Newton, the man who wrote "Amazing Grace." His was more of a 'burning bush,' but more often it's of the gradual, educational variety.

Unfortunately, these genuine instances are few & far between. I don't know what the statistics are, but personally I would be highly skeptical of anyone who claimed to have changed, been redeemed, absolved, rehabilitated etc.

^ yes

Are some people beyond redemption? ...I'll say most who have done something horrible can't go back because they won't let themselves. They know they are capable, and will do so if they feel the need. It's like, not to sound trite, people trying to quit sex or smoking...drinking. They can, but they don't want to because it has already been done. Let's do it some more.

Like TopCat, after a person murders another, it would be hard for me to believe that they are perfectly fine. I mean, that would be naive.

I don't know anyone trying to quit sex, but you get what I mean. They enjoyed killing (most likely) and'll most likely do it again because they like it.

Oh, monks try to quit sex...? Wait, they never have sex. Wait, is that right? Ya, pretty sure.
