Blackest Night: The Flash #1
Solid start to a very promising tie-in. What we get here is a little bit of Rogues' Revenge, a little bit of Rebirth, and a little bit of Blackest Night. It's a nice jumping-on point for those interested in reading The Flash but disappointed with the delays of the Rebirth series.
My main problem with books like these is that this story takes place between panels in Blackest Night #4 and #5 was just released last week. Also, Rebirth #6 hasn't been released, leaving out what are possible key developments in Barry Allen's...well...rebirth. It's moves like these that get fans thinking trade: evil words that prevent picking up books monthly.
Now now, all of you Flash vets are in for a treat as well. As artist Scott Kollins is back from Rogues' Revenge and the original classic runs with Johns. His scratchy, cartoony style may turn off those expecting the detailed horror-driven art displayed by BN pencilers' Mahnke and Reis. Kollins' art, while especially captivating when it comes to the Rogues' designs, appears a little more rushed here. Regardless, it's a nice change of pace from the Flash art we've seen recently.
3.5/5 Flash Bangs - Really good set-up issue that's sure to get better
