Ive decided that i need to make a change in my life. I need to lose weight, and im starting to feel serious about it. Mostly i just want to look decent with my shirt off, nothing super complicated, i just want to drop from about 210-200 lbs to about 150-165 lbs. I used to actually weigh about that much before my medication was switched from adderall to strattera. Unfortunately ive got alot of factors that work against me in the weight loss department. My family is pretty thick with hungarian genes, so that pretty much means if i don't make a change now, im not very far off from looking like one of the dwarves from Middle Earth, only with significantly larger man-teets, im also kinda lazy, and the other thing is, working at mcdonald's and living on my own means my food budget isn't really what it should be to create a decent diet. i live pretty much on anything microwaveable and cheap(i.e. pizza rolls), and i also don't qualify for assistance like foodstamps.
part of the reason i want to lose this weight is because...well, i want to look good for my girl, i don't want to finally get naked in front of her for the first time and have her repulsed and or confused because my gut is so big she can't uhm...find it. yeah, i know, kind of a silly thing for a guy to worry about, but im really self-conscience about how big i am...down there, and how out of shape i am and stuff. So im pretty much going to start walking and maybe doing crunches/situps, prolly some pushups too. And also, to really prove to myself this is a permanent change, im going to throw away my very, very large collection of...material relating to an adult nature. any suggestions on any of this stuff would be greatly appreciated. i consider alot of you guys really good friends/family to a certain degree, and that's why im posting this in the first place, is because i figured you guys might be able to help.

Okay.

So you want advice on how to lose some weight? No problem, I'm trying to drop eighty pounds myself.

First, do you have access to a gym? If not, get access.

Here's how I started out:

-Three times a week
-At least forty-five minutes of cardio
-Weights - you're going for reps here, so no need to be maxing out. I've been mainly focusing on upper body, doing bicep curls, lat pulldowns, tricep extensions, and various chest exercises
-Try and do at least five sets of ten
-Crunches and side crunches. A lot of them

After a couple weeks, bump it up:
-At least an hour of cardio
-With weights, increase weight, reps or both

After a couple more weeks, step it up again:
-An hour and fifteen to an hour and a half of cardio

A couple weeks later, you guessed it:
-Start going to the gym twice a day, once in the morning, and once in the afternoon/evening
-In the morning, just do cardio
-In the afternoon, do your normal routine
-If you're feeling up for it, try and go five days a week, but only do weights three days, the other two just do cardio, your muscles need time to heal.

As for the material of an adult nature, once you get rid of it, DON'T aquire any more. Not even on the internet. Stay away from it.

for cardio - one thing i learned to get ur motabolism back up

1 min of walking
1 min of power walking
1 min of jogging
1 min of running

^ do that 4x = 2mins - will do u good

then if you feel confrotable at a pace then start with that and go for distance not speed

also - have a slight incline on a threadmill = will help burn more

as for weights - limbs getting muscles and definitions is easier than crunches ...... i would focus on crunches and situps and all that core work out

good luck maybe take pics for progress Smile

I'm not sure I understand what the losing weight thing has to do with the pr0n. Good for you, either way. Just seems to me like these would be mutually exclusive issues. As for this:

azrael07 wrote:well, i want to look good for my girl. i don't want to finally get naked in front of her for the first time and have her repulsed and or confused because my gut is so big she can't uhm...find it.

Dude, I'm WAY bigger than you are and that's not a problem. You've got some body issues, and I can dig that, but that's some serious shit, bro. Relax, man. If you're with a girl, then she digs you, chubbiness and all. If you're a grower and not a shower, it's all good, man. I'd say in general girls are less shallow than guys.

I'm just saying I've never surprised a girl with nekkid fatness. My fatness is on mutha-effin' front street. It's no secret Laughing Seriously, if she's letting you get naked with her, she knows what she's getting into.

For me, jogging/running has been it. Unless you're really needing to add strength or muscle I would say just do cardio. Get out there and run and don't stop for at least 20-30 minutes. It'll hurt and your lungs will burn for the first few weeks, but then it'll start to feel good. You'll be able to increase your distance and stay in motion a lot longer. The first two weeks will be the hardest, but if you can actually make yourself run (without stopping... even if it's a slow pace - something above walking), you have an extremely cheap, extremely effective means of weight loss.

I'm at the hospital right now, but when I get home I'll send you some links. Educate yourself sir don't just follow what someone says works for them.

Dancers work outs work for dancers because they do it all the time. 15 minutes doing plies isn't going to turn you into a svelt dancer.

I'll share what I've learned and you can do with that info what you will.

Here's an important question Az? What do you do for a living? My personal recomendation? Skip expensive gym memberships, and get a job requireing physical labor. My first month of moving furniture, I lost two inches off my waist and packed on 8 pounds of muscle. It'll suck at first, but you'll get used to it pretty quick. Also, are you sure about dropping down to 150? I'm 5'10 180, and I'm a skinny dude. Just some food for thought.

Ok first off... for some motivation. I recommend this thread. Pictures of people's transformations, REALLY makes you want to get moving.

A free ebook which I THROUGHLY recommend reading. It really changed how I looked at food and exercise.
http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3262466

The FAQ that answers a bunch of the questions you might have.
http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2522955

Some info for ladies who are afraid of lifting big heavy weights.
http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3268290

And the program that I'm currently following that even following very loosely has allowed me to lose 2" off my hips and 1" off my waist and chest.
http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/Starting_Strength_Wiki

And something to keep in mind while you're processing all this. The IMPORTANT thing to take away from all of this:
A pound of muscle weighs more than a pound of fat BUT it's more compact SO if you begin lifting weights you may GAIN weight before you lose it. The reason this happens is that while it weighs more it also burns more calories at rest than a pound of fat. SO while I've been doing all this lifting I've not ONCE had to CUT my diet. I do NO cardio and I've lost size... I say size because I actually weigh MORE.... but my pants fit better and and I can see MUCH more definition than I could when I weighed less.

Also try to keep this in mind, lifting weights builds fast twitch muscles, the type of muscles required for quick, explosive movements. Things like running for long distances builds slow twitch muscles, the ones that are meant to burn less calories over a long period of time.

Your body is not capable of building both at the same time. SO lifting weights and then running 3 miles... you've effectively done no good. You would be better served by doing High Intensity Interval Training, it exercises the muscles in the same way and burns the calories you want to burn.

ALSO Even if you do 300 sit ups a day you will NEVER have good looking abs if that's ALL you're doing. There is no such thing as spot toning. You can't just do curls for hours and expect to get awesome biceps. You can have awesome abs but if it's covered in too much fat you're never going to get the definition you want to see.

(lets see what else drives me crazy, that people are misinformed about)

Also, this isn't going to be easy, nor is it going to be instant. You didn't get that big ever night don't expect to see results over night.

I DO recommend taking measurements and pictures and DON'T compare measurements any closer together than 4-6 weeks. Also Fat calipers are a great investment.

If you're interested in what it takes to look like that guy in the diet pills ad let me recommend a movie called "I want to look like that guy". It's a documentary of a guy who actually did all that was required to look like a body builder..... well just watch it... it'll change your life when it comes to exercise.

*whew* that's enough for now I think.

I skimmed through this but looks like good advice. Like Vikro said, some cardio goes a long way. Most people don't need as much weight training as they think. Focus on developing an exercise routine and work at it. Results take time but you will see and feel different as time goes on.

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

They have a pretty good guide. I started with something similar some ways back but it's still good and relevant. You can make some slight modifications to increase the amount of work done but don't go too crazy. One mistake people make when they start excercise is that they jump too far into it and expect to be perfect at it which is rarely if ever the case. Gradually working but consistently doing so should make results happen.
