CEO's letter to Rewards Members

The two Borders stores in the New Orleans area are among the ones closing down. Sad

I am not surprised they are closing. There prices were so high and you could only get a deal with a coupon. There website was pure crap either it was full price or on backorder and there customer service had been outsourced. Rolling Eyes

Their prices aren't any higher than any other bookstore since books tend to cost the same no matter where you buy them, outside of second-hand shops. I can't speak to their website, having never used it, but I've always enjoyed their in-store experience and prefer it to every other large retail bookstore I've been to.

It's just hard for brick and mortar stores to compete with Amazon. Borders certainly isn't the only business to be hurt by Amazon's ridiculously low prices.

Agreed. All the Barnes & Noble stores in my area, for example, are generally pretty crowded and annoying. I've come to really enjoy buying/reading/studying/etc. at Borders.

I never found their prices high, books are pretty standared when it comes to prices, they are printed on the book. No store can charge you more then that. I actully enjoyed Borders more then Barnes and Nobles for the basic fact that Borders would send me a coupon 3 or 4 times a month and had a rewards program that did not cost anything. Unlike B & N which charged a yearly fee.

That said, the 2 Borders I frequent the most are staying open, which makes me happy.

Borders prices are the same as any other books store. There's even been times that the prices might be a dollar or two lower than what was printed on the book, even without the coupons. I enjoyed Borders because it had a welcoming atmosphere. The B&N in the areas I have lived always had a stuffing, rich people only feeling to them. I use to spend 2 hours every Friday at a book store picking out books, I'd spend any where from $30 to $100 in one week on books alone. When ever I went to B&N there was always some employee watching me like I was going to steal the whole book case. I yelled at them once and filed a complaint. Plus Borders employees seemed to always be helpful to look for a book, B&N employees tend to avoid anyone who tries to ask them a question.

I'm happy the one in the mall I work at isn't closing. That being said, I am hitting up all others in the area to see about getting some sweet store closing deals if there are any.

Looks like the Borders close to us isn't closing but it doesn't really matter to me. I usually go to the local Barnes and Noble since it's right next door to Toys R Us.

yeah and its very sad thing. I blame online shopping.

I'm happy that my Borders isn't closing.

my only beef with them is that they keep moving their graphic novel section.

So I was totally going to say "Oh hey, the B&N near where my parents live is right next to A Toys 'R Us, and then I saw/remembered that you're out in central IL too and it's probably the exact some B&N and Toys 'R Us. Laughing

That being said, I'm super glad the Borders in town isn't closing, I straight up love that store...but I will totally be scoping out the six or so stores that are closing here in the city. Laughing

I wish it wasn't so, Borders has always been my favorite over Barnes and Noble. Borders sends me coupons for having a FREE discount card. Their stores have less people sitting on their ass reading the books all day too. I hate it when I go to buy a book and there's one copy that's been crudded up because of some Pocky icing covered fingers of a damn anime kid.

Laughing Yeah, it probably is. It's the B & N on Market Street in Champaign/Urbana. It's B&N, Toys R Us, and Olive Garden all in the same parking lot along with whatever other stores are in the mini-mall there. Smile

I always loved Borders since it was so close to where I worked. I could see B&N from my office building, but it was across the interstate, making it a 20 minute drive. Borders was a 5 minute drive and the people there were always so nice.

I also have issues with B&N since applying to work there when I was in college (before Borders was built), going to the interview, and despite being an avid reader and really knowledgeable about books, told that I was "too alternative" for their store. Total asshats.

My favorite Borders there in Mason that I always used to hang out at: closing. Every Borders in Orlando: closing. Crying or Very sad
