It's all your favourite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with monsters and the Doctor and a honeymoon
Okay my guess at this stage is a Timey Wimey take on Miracle on 54th Street and It's a Wonderful Life.

Brilliant! Gambon must be playing Santa musn't he? He's already been mentioned in The Eleventh Hour when little Amy is praying to him so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch. Dunno what Jenkins might be...a Christmas Fairy? could be.

Didn't think of that. I could see (and would love to see) Gambon as Santa. Jenkins could be the villain..it sounds like that Yeti design I threw up here was for something else. Sad

And if we're having a Christmas carol-like thing, could we have a previous doctor show up as a Ghost of Christmas past? (Tom baker maybe? That rumor keeps on flying around and the Moff said no comment to it..)

http://io9.com/5594414/behold-an-amazing-tron-legacy-pic-battle-la-photos-and-our-first-look-at-michael-gambon-on-doctor-who
There are a few new Doctor Who set pics up on Alun.Vega's flickr page. [See them here - the first shot of Michael Gambon on set is below.] Set reporters weren't able to capture much because of the tent, but we do know that Michael "Dumbledore" Gambon has been seen on set, possibly in Victorian clothes, and there looks to be some green screen work going on inside the Coal Exchange that also involved large industrial fans and crashmats. (most importantly though, we now know what the new location signs look like, so our valiant set reporters should have an easier time picking up on future location filming)

Additionally, it seems that Danny Horn is playing a vicar who gets to eat Christmas dinner with the Doctor, two boys were seen on set wearing brown striped pajamas, Matt Smith has his brown coat and red bow tie, and somebody was seen carrying two old looking tennis rackets.

I also came across an article which confirms that this season's Christmas special will be "Doctor Who's clever twist on the much loved A Christmas Carol."

Also, according to Moffat: "It's all your favorite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with monsters. And the Doctor.
Spoiler:
And ... oh, you'll see."

Sounds good so far! Very Happy

Sounded great. Matt Smith went one better than Tennant at the last one and actually turned up both as himself and as the Doctor. His interaction with the kid from the audience was hilarious. Can't wait to watch it on BBC 3 next month.

Torchwood news!

Title: The New World

New writers:
John Shiban ("Breaking Bad," "Supernatural," "The X-Files"), Doris Egan ("House," "Tru Calling," "Dark Angel'), Jane Espenson ("Game of Thrones," "Battlestar Galactica," "Buffy") and John Fay (a U.K. "Torchwood" writer)

Torchwood: The New World focuses on Rex and Ester, a CIA agent and analyst who require the help of Captain Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper with a yet-to-be-explained alien conundrum. Davies also noted that this self-contained, ten-episode arc could take advantage of premium cable's license for violence and licentiousness:

[Torchwood's] like a legend now ... it's like something that's ceased to exist and is now spoken of only in whispers [...] The two teams coming together is a big part of the story — are they friends or enemies? [...] I've always had loose standards and practices [...] If the story demands intimacy or savagery, we will go there absolutely ... there's nothing better than a great big global thriller that stops for a sex scene — it's probably hard to make that happen in a thriller.

Also:

- Rhys Williams (Kai Owen) will be back with their baby.
- Sorry Capt. John Hart fans, but James Marsters is not going to be in this 10-episode season, but he's still in good with Davies for possible future participation.

http://planetgallifrey.blogspot.com/2010/08/torchwood-details-announced.html
Torchwood Synopsis -
When C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson investigates a global conspiracy, he finds himself unearthing a threat which challenges the entire human race. The answers seem to lie within an old, secret British institute, known only as Torchwood. But Torchwood was destroyed, years ago, and the keys to the institute are held by its only two survivors - former Police Officer Gwen Cooper, who has long since disappeared along with her husband and child, and the mysterious Captain Jack Harkness, a man whose history seems to stretch back centuries.

With Rex under attack from all sides, in both the US and the UK, he soon discovers there are forces at work within every level of society, determined to stop Torchwood's return. As a chain of events across the world links together the most disparate and unlikely individuals - including a surgeon, a killer, senators and CEOs - a new Torchwood team takes shape. But this time, the threat is much closer to home, as they realize that their greatest enemy is mankind itself...

Profile- Rex (actor yet to be announced):

He’s 28, the golden boy.

Has been, all his life. Harvard education, fast-tracker in the C.I.A., destined for success. Though he’s never taken it easy – Rex hustles, seduces and campaigns to get where he is today. He can talk his way into anything, then charm his way out, fast. He’s made a lot of enemies, but his friends and lovers would defend him to death. His choice of career is significant. Someone like Rex could make a fortune in Wall Street, or Hollywood. But choosing the C.I.A. says a lot about him: that for all his swagger, he does believe in justice. And will fight for it.

Slowly but surely, we see him make friends. He’s thrown together a bunch of people known as Torchwood, the only people who might have the answer to a global mystery. To Rex, at first, they’re a bunch of freaks. Welsh women and World War 2 Captains, what’s that about?! But as they race from one crisis to another, dodging assassins, blackmail, corruption and conspiracy, from Washington to Wales and the slums of Shanghai, Rex forges friendships in the heat of fire. He learns to trust his new colleagues. And they realize that this dangerous, dazzling, reckless man is the best friend they could ever have, in a world going to hell.
They frighten us, men like Rex. We wish we were him; we never will be.

Also it sounds like Harkness cos of his undying love for Gwen. Did anyone really care about that part of the show? I didn't, it was kinda a pet peeve of mine. We'll see how it goes.

Meanwhile, we got a pic from the x-mas special:

Question to everyone: did I need to put that rumor in spoilers since it is just a rumor? In the future, should I just leave rumors spoilered or unspoilered?

I think if its a possible plot point its a good idea to put it in a spoiler like you did. And say its a rumor at the start just like you did it! That way if people want to possibly know they can or they can be totally surprised!

Okay...that's a pretty Gary Stu character, even for Torchwood. As much as I love that show, I'm a little irked that everyone that group touches is amazingly brilliant in most aspects of their life. I'd like to see a real 'everyman' character involved with the team -- someone for whom shooting a gun and being all bad-ass doesn't come naturally.

But, still! I'll watch it, because I am a fan, and since it's on Starz, we should be able to see Captain Jack tap some ass finally.
