I lost my shit when I read that typo and pronounced it "Dow Bell".

Looking forward to listening on my late-afternoon-early-evening run.

Also, Nick totally beat me to the joke. *kicks rock*

One thing I wanted to mention when it came to the news. When you were talking about San Diego's ticket buying problems and Lee said something about not having any problems for the Superbowl, that is actually not correct. Check this out:

That wasn't really ticket buying problems though....it was that they didn't have the seats fixed in time...right?

Has K-Whack's impression become so spot on that my delicate ears can't tell the difference between him and the real thing anymore? Very Happy

I just listened to episode #34 where Miguel Cima came on to talk about his movie Dig Comics and his efforts to get more people reading comics. I have to say, he really kind of pissed me off. I do appreciate his goal of getting comics to a more mainstream status, but the position he took on super hero comics really put me off. I hate it when people look down on super hero comics and see them, as K-Whack put it, as "the low rung on the totem pole".

It makes me mad when non comic readers do this, but when comic fans do this it makes them seem snobby to me. I'm first and foremost a super hero comic fan. I've branched out lately and tried some other stuff, and I've quite liked it, but I'll always love the super hero stuff the most.

I just don't think it's smart, when you are trying to get people to read comics, to alienate a good portion of them by putting down super hero comics. If that's what I like, that's what I'm going to read. I shouldn't have to read other stuff just because you think I should. If I have no interest in it, I'm not going to waste my money. I have no interest in reading comics that are just about history like some of the ones he was mentioning.

I also have to say, that I think his idea of giving comics as a gift isn't a great one. Trying to force someone to like something you do isn't going to work. I fully support trying to get others to read comics, but don't force it on them. I hate sports. If someone gave me baseball equipment for my birthday to try to get me to like it just because they are a fan, I'd be PISSED. It would make me even less likely to try baseball. I think the much better way to go is to talk to people about comics, and then let them just check some of yours out. Don't pressure them into it. Let them flip through a book and see if it is of any interest to them.

Anyway, just had to rant a little. Like I said, I do appreciate Miguel Cima's general goal, but he just irritated me with what he said.

Oh god, what a train wreck that was. I remember the chat hating that guy. While i like the ides of getting more people into comics (obviously) telling current readers they're wrong for liking what they do is dumb.

I remember being on that show...nice and quiet lost in the background lol.

I will say this about Miguel. While he might be overzealous his heart is in the right place. If you see the documentary he actually gives a kid a Fantastic Four book.

Batman25JM - Giving comics as a gift doesn't force anyone to read it. You can throw it off to the side like you would have done had someone giving you a bat or a glove. What different is that it take you 5-10 minutes to read a comic book. The time invested in it isn't much. I've given out comics as gifts and a few new fans grew from that. That being said lend people your comics is just as effective.
