Also, everything depends on exactly what type of zombies we're dealing with here. With some, yeah, you gotta destroy the brain. With others, decapitation is enough, and sometimes you don't even need to do that.

Yeah, but What if you're in an enclosed space?

You need a lot of room to swing that shit. That's why I tend to shy away from full size swords, axes, and sledghammers.

Personally, I still think it'd take a fair amount of skill to efficiently handle such an unwieldy weapon, at the very least more skill than I think I possess. Plus, because of it's size it could be harder to implement in tighter spaces and in the end, I'm just lazy and wouldn't want to carry it around. More power to anyone who could use it effectively, but I think it'd be more of a hindrance than a help for me.
Points well taken, Gandicles, I'll be carrying a few handguns and smaller bladed weapons just in case.

Joshua. I lived on my father's ranch for two years, during which I would often use a scythe to clear out weeds and such from my father's fields, so I have a bit of experience with it.

With the Kukri, the weight of the blade is at the end, so I could get a good whack right through the top of a zombie skull. Same with the hatchet. The hatchet also has many more uses.

Plus, they're both relatively small and light, and easily carried.
Hatchets, FTW, that's why I've got two of them worn in a holster below the two desert eagles.

superdoug wrote:Since destruction of the brain pan is what's necessary, I don't understand all the blades. I wouldn't want a bunch of zombie heads biting at my ankles. Plus, if you're dealing with some sort of virus-type situation, an open, accidentally-self-inflicted wound leaves you open for infection.

My Thor hammer makes much more sense. No noise to attract other roamers, no chance of cutting yourself, and will destroy the brain pan, even in an enclosed space.

Gay guy FTW.

Decapitation, my dear pickle-tickling friend I love you

I'll stick with a katana.
Lightweight, sharp, no great skill needed. In a mall i'm gonna hve a fair amount of room to use it. All the choices are good but, it comes down to personal choice. I know my strengths and think my choice suits me best.

That being said i will beat a zombie about the head and shoulders with a dachshund if that's all i have....

Then I get to roll in this. I may need to mount a chaingun or two to the hood, and maybe some kind of roof mounted missle system.......

Oh yeah, my other weapon choices are: Shotgun(Classic!), Axe,Scimitar, and flamethrower.

Maybe a suit made out of the spears they used in 300? Awkward but, no way they'd get near you!

So, basically, you'd be redoing 'Maximum Overdrive' with zombies insteads of machines.

There's another thing. Desert Eagles, badass as they are, are highly impractical and unnecessary for three reasons: One, you don't need a gun that leaves an exit wound the size of a 69 squareback to deal with zombies. Ammo's not gonna be near as common as typical calibers like 9 mm or .45. Lastly, that shit only holds seven rounds. I want to be reloading as little as possible.

If I'm using a pistol, I'm going with something with more common, with higher capacity with much more common ammo - a Beretta M9. As you may or may not know, I live right next to a big ass Marine base. The M9 is the standard-issue sidearm.

Really, in the event of a zombie apocalypse, this would be my loadout:

Mainstays:

-Beretta M9 in thigh mounted holster
-About 4 extra magazines in ammo pouch mounted on opposite thigh
-Kukri knife in back-mounted sheath
-Hatchet in belt-mounted sheath
-Backpack containing first-aid kid and an MRE, with plenty of space leftover for any useful supplies I encounter

Optional:

-M16 or M4 with about 4 extra magazines

Not so much shitting on your weapons of choice so much as trying to save your life.

A flamethrower, while not exactly viable as a handheld weapon (you are flammable too), would make a decent vehicle-mounted weapon, and could potentially be very efficient in terms of ammunition used per kill. Depending on the area and concentration of zombies, a few well placed burns could spread throughout the horde. Not exactly quick, but efficient.

As for the Mossberg, It would be an effective weapon due to it's one shot kill capabilities in close quarters and potential to hit multiple targets. The only drawback is the slow reload. Thus you would need a backup weapon while you find a nice quiet spot to reload without getting eaten.
