With #2 I'm so happy with Tomasi's work on this (just as I knew I would be) and I'm so glad he's still working in the GL universe because I'm pretty unhappy with GLC.
jaydee74 wrote:#2 was just spot on. I loved the beginning with Guy in the archives. Tomasi has really found Guy's voice and I am loving his characterization. There is so much about this series that is just so right and it's only issue #2. It kind of makes me sad that Tomasi can't do both Emerald Warriors. It's not that I am not enjoying GLC but it's hasn't been as good as it was with Tomasi writing it. Peter Tomasi has become my second favorite writer behind Johns simply because he gets the characters he's writing and I just enjoy what he's doing on this book. #3 looks like it's going to be filled with Red Rage goodness.
I absolutely love the fact that Tomasi is allowing Guy to grow. At heart he's still the Guy Gardner we've all known for many years but added to that Tomasi has allowed him to evolve as a character and even tone down some of his hotheadedness - and the way he's written it, it's seemed like something deliberate from the character himself - he's deliberately put in the effort to improve himself. Seriously, this does not happen in super-hero comics often. The majority of characters in comics do not progress - they are frozen in time forever. This isn't the case with Guy though. I think that's really fantastic work.

Actually I don't so much get the sense that it's going to be that type of book at all. I think it's going to be this small group off on a slightly different path to the rest of the GLC but I don't really see it as going to be a gritty or black ops style thing. Could be wrong but it's not my take on it. Just a different path that's all.
Anyway, I really like these 3 characters so their journey is going to be worth reading. Probably joined by Sodam Yat sooner or later.
When you think about it Tomasi's already set up a number of storylines for the group - finding Sodam Yat, Guy's red lantern "infection", Guy's secret mission and this new villain. Not a bad effort for 2 issues in.
