Next on my list (and just picked up this week) is American Gods by Neil Gaiman. I've never read it, and was in the middle of a couple of other books when it was the PoP! read.
Yay! I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
You know, that was the deepest book I've ever read. I mean, it seems fairly simple on the surface, but when you really start paying attention to what's going on, the book suddenly evolves a whole other layer, much in the way that it happens to the characters in the book. It's suddenly Gaiman's Backstage, and you're just waiting to see what happens next.
I didn't see the end of the Lakeside story until the last minute. I hope that wasn't obvious to everyone and I just missed it.
I'll have to re-read it, I know. There's a hell of a lot to absorb, and Gaiman's neat skewering of complex ideas with simple explanations makes it easy to miss a truly deep idea. I just know I missed one.
All in all, though, a great book! I've read four books by Gaiman that weren't Sandman stories, and every one of them has been an awesome experience.
Finally, while reading this, did anyone else think that this would be a great idea for an HBO series? There's so much to it that you could easily get three seasons out of it before the actual climax....
