News-

Warner Brothers will produce the remake of the film and the project is currently in work, the storybook will be written by Oren Uziel.

Before they do though, the studio is going to have to fight off a legal challenge from previous owners Threshold Entertainment. The Wrap is reporting that the production company has filed a suit against Warner Brothers, claiming the studio has frozen them out of developing the video game adaption. Threshold were the original development partner with Midway on the 1995 film and in 2006 signed a deal to make another movie. Midway went bankrupt last year however, and Warners swooped for the rights to MK. However Threshold has insisted that federal bankruptcy proceedings upheld the agreements it had signed with Midway and passed over to WB.

The studio's recent announcement was presumably the final straw for Threshold, who are now seeking damages.

Hrm. 2013. Oddly, possible Annihilation will prevent us from another film. Heh. Take that as you will.

I liked the two Mortal Kombat movies (especially the first one). Were they good movies? HELL NO!!! I enjoyed them anyway though.

If this new movie is indeed made, I'll go see it.

I'll borrow it from a friend. yes Unless *crosses fingers* it turns out to be just like the games and its whole setting and characterizations. The first one felt parody, although that was before Deadly Alliance, when the stories became a little more deep.

Annihilation was very Power Ranger-y/Hercules: The Legendary Series. Too campy.

The fact that I'm a Power Rangers fan could very well have been a reason I liked it.

I don't know if I would see it. While the first two movies were fair at best, the first one did a lot for me when it came to the fight scenes. I thought they were amazing. Not sure if I have an interest anymore though.

That video is amazing. After seeing Michael Jai White I want to be able to play Black Dynamite in the game.

Weird, it works for me. Anyway:
Speculation has run rampant today with the debut of a short "Mortal Kombat" film (subtitled "Rebirth") that made its way anonymously to YouTube. Now, Latino Review reports that the film is, as many theorized, a test for a potential R-rated film reboot of the video game franchise.

The short is directed by Kevin Tancharoen, the director of last year's Fame, and features a cast that includes name actors like Michael Jai White (Jax), Jeri Ryan (Sonya Blade), Matt Mullins (Johnny Cage), Lateef Crowder (Baraka) and Ian Anthony Dale (Scorpion) with fight choreography by Larnell Stovall.

Though there is no guarantee that these actors will play the characters in a feature film version or even that a feature film will actually happen, the short is already a huge success online, with the word "Kombat" already a trending topic on Twitter.

This looks pretty damn awesome.
But I don't really like that "they" tried to make the characters "realistic"
