I still don't understand the need to shut the board down. I mean, does it really take that much effort to keep the board running. It seemed like Wizard neglected it anyway and it still worked fine so why even shut it down?

At one time, the WUMB had several members of the Wizard staff as active participants on the forums. They acted as both faces of the magazines and fieldied questions/complaints about them pretty well and just as members of the board having a good time and interacting /w everyone.
Then there was culling, a majority of the Wiz staff was let go and several dick moves later I think the Wizard execs thought having an open platform where anyone can call them on their bullshit was not in their best interests.
