Creator David S. Goyer is known for his connection to comic books, so I wasn't surprised to see the name "D. Gibbons" featured here. In the pilot the young black agent was named Alfred Gough (one of the co-creators of Smallville).

Also, Lee Thompson Young, the guy who played the agent, played Cyborg in Smallville.
