^ Was having that conversation with someone a couple days ago. Guess it depends on point of view. Slashers are seen as movies with knife wielding maniacs or a melee attacking maniac, usually hunting the victims. Exploitative is kind of vague. Do you mean specifically the violence? I guess a slasher could easily get a "splatter flick"/"torture porn" labeling, but still doesn't mean it isn't a slasher, I'd say.
Saw two Canadian horror movies a couple days ago.
Suck
There was a lot more to this movie than I thought there would be. The vampirism was this fantastical and comical parable of being a musician or a "ROCK STAR!". The curse was a metaphor of sex, drugs, and even gimmicks used by hacks. It was giving in to ego, giving up one's soul for fame and selling out. I liked it. Really didn't expect much, but it had some good moments. Worth renting and checking out.
Werewolf Fever
This was just terrible...and I kind of got a kick out of it. The story was like a 10 year old from the 50s wrote this (inspired by the carhop burger joint. Still had an undefined era for the story). The acting seemed like it was everyone's first day in drama class and had just read the lines 5 minutes before take. The werewolf looked like a Teletubby infected with the G-Virus. Despite the poor audio of however they recorded this, the lame humor was funny in a good
bad way. Like hearing such a lame joke that you laugh because--well, because it's lame. :P Kitch horror schlock. Just what the doctor ordered.
