Ok, I just got back from seeing this. As much as I was a Transformers fan when I was a kid, I was a bigger fan of G.I. Joe. The comics adn toys more then the cartoon.
I had low expectations going into this movie, and the movie went lower then my expectations. As a fan, I am tired of Hollywood saying they are doing things for the fans. No, Hollywood, you are doing things for opening weekend box office and not for the fans at all.

- While the little nods such as kung fu grip, the real american hero like got a chuckle out of me, the Breaker gum scene did not. I was a huge fan of Breaker in the comics, his trademark gum was a huge aspect of that, just read issue 5 of the Marvel series to really enjoy that. All they had to do was have him chewing gum, I don't even mind that they changed his racial background, just have the guy chew the gum and blow bubbles. Nope, Duke gives him gum. sigh.
I didnt mind the Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow history change as they were trained as 10 year olds, the fight scene between their kid versions was actually really cool, but when revelaed that Snake Eyes took a vow of silence instead of having his vocal chords damaged, well, that irked me a bit. I also would of perfered if Storm Shadow was really working for Cobra, errr...excuse me, MARS, to see who really killed the Hard Master. It seems as if in the movie he really did do it and well, since Snake kind of killed him, I guess they will go with that.
The Baroness....Acting by Sienna Miller was good, but the character itself, well, not the Baroness to me.
Destro, they kind of made him a bit weak at the end there. He basically just rolled over and let someone that worked for him take over.
Cobra Commander or Rex. Well, I was hesitant at first when I found out that the kid from 3rd Rock from the Sun was playing him. He actually did a good job.....but.....just like the Baroness, to me, he was not Cobra Commander. Whie the Comanders comic origin may be a little silly, at least it was a bit realistic, while movie version was just.....meh.
The one thing this movie did manage to do was fit every army action movie cliche in it, props for that.
Ripcord/Scarlett stuff...more meh. Ripcord wasnt funny to me, I couldnt laugh at all.
I know I am being "that guy" when it comes to critizing this movie, but I do have an attachement to the comics that Marvel put out. I realize that I will never get teh movie I want to see, but they could of at least gotton close. I just feel that no one that had a true passion for the source material worked on this movie. I too read that Larry Hama overlooked the production, but I hate to say this, but lots of zero's on a check will pretty much say, yeah, it looks good.
Ok, I will end on things I did like, seeing the Night Raven was cool as well as seeing the Flagg. The fight sequences between Snake and Storm were really cool

So I saw it last night, finally... on a bootleg. And I must say... THANK GOD I didn't pay 10 bucks to watch that bullshit! What I did ended up paying for was for Inglorious Basterds, however, when I came home I thought it would have been a good idea to pop the dvd in and watch it. The dialogue is stuck in my mind like a wheel of bad movie ideas just spinning around and around and around my head.
Kung fu grip, knowing is half the battle, true american hero, Destro and Cobra's 'masks' and Marlon Wayans acting. And then I see it, the very ending of the movie and the credits begin to roll. "Based on the hasbro characters" just to explain to me that it wasn't based on the cartoons or the comic books or any of the toy lines. It was based on the characters... Atleast its what im thinking is their fail safe excuse because to some people they think this is actually worthy of a movie of the summer. But no. I need to clean my brain now and try to salvage my childhood.
Quick, somebody send me the original GI Joe movie, the one with Sgt. Slaughter in it.
And btw, thanks everyone for warning me about this monstrousity... I just saved a lot of money by switching to bootleg.

My sister was babysitting my daughter last night as an anniversary present (married 2 years tomorrow!), but the missus ended up having to go into work.. So, I had myself a little Hasbro night. Watched Transformers 2 again, and GI Joe. Still loved TF2, but GI Joe left me wanting. It was a little on the campy side. What they SHOULD have done is just played up the uber military aspect of it and left the cartoonishness of it a lot more downplayed. That being said, I'll probably pick it up when it comes out of DVD, but I was still disappointed.

I wish this movie came out when i was like 9 or 10, it would have been even better

yeah, they should improve a hell of alot in the sequel, like a more badass Cobra Commander and Destro, non-cheesey dialouge, all around character development and a cool plot that dosen't get too convulted. happy aniversery by the way!
PS- anyone who didn't like the movie watch GI Joe: Resolute on youtube, it's pretty cool.
